Learning support
Individual intervention programmes for students with specific learning differences can be organized based on the child’s needs. Programmes may focus on phonics, spelling, handwriting and further speech and language development, numeracy development, developing fine motor skills, reading and spelling. These multi-sensory sessions are based on specially written teaching material and personalised for pupils with specific learning difficulties: specialised resources such as Toe by Toe and Word Wasp, highly structured multi-sensory, individual reading and spelling programmes, specially designed for children and helpful in improving pupils decoding and spelling skills.
Fine Motor Skills activities focus on warming up, hand and finger strength, manipulation and eye-hand co-ordination. In addition, the sessions include early pattern and letter writing skills.
Fun specialized computer-based programs which help reinforce spellings and maths skills respectively, such as Word and Number shark, Phonicsplay, and Nessy spelling and reading are also used to support lessons. These programmes are best used in short sessions each day, in close collaboration with class teachers and parents.
