Sports at St. George's

Sport is a key element in the daily lives of all pupils who attend St. George's. While engaging in both the Physical Education curriculum and extra-curricular sports clubs, pupils develop a sense of togetherness which positively affects all aspects of school life. All pupils are encouraged to discover their personal interests through a wide variety of sports and activities on offer, with many opting to represent the school in the competitive sports teams. Unique to St. George's is the winter Physical Education curriculum between January and March, where all pupils learn how to ski or snowboard at different resorts across Switzerland.

IGCSE Physical Education

At St George’s we believe that teaching our pupils about how to live a healthy and active lifestyle is very important. For that reason, we have chosen to offer the IGCSE PE program in Years 10 and 11. The syllabus provides learners with an opportunity to study both the practical and theoretical aspects of physical education. It is designed to encourage enjoyment in physical activity by providing learners with an opportunity to take part in a range of physical activities and develop an appreciation for effective and safe physical performance. This helps learners to gain a sound understanding of the principles, practices and training that underpin improved performance, better health, and well-being. The physical component and the academic component each make up 50% of the overall mark.

Sport Études

Passion and Commitment

At St. George’s, we recognise and support the commitment required from pupils who practise high-level sports. Sport Études is a bespoke programme for pupils who demonstrate passion and commitment to a sporting activity. It provides a balanced structure between the development of physical talents and academic life.

The objective of our new Sport Études project is to accommodate our elite sports pupils who have shown interest, commitment, and talents in their favourite sports outside school by offering them an adapted academic programme. This programme allows them to maintain robust academic standards while creating “time zones” when pupils can concentrate on their sport on and off the school premises.

Open to Middle School and Senior School pupils.

Golf fit

Physical preparation sessions are organised every week either in Puidoux at our partner Golf-Fit or at the school under the guidance of Mr Médard, our Sports Tutor. These sessions can be global and/or specific to each sport and each athlete. Nutrition and mental coaching sessions are also proposed to prepare pupils for a better management of their competitions. These sports training sessions are completed by cryotherapy sessions.
