CATEGORY E FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT- INSTITUTE LE ROSEY FRIDAY 5TH OCTOBER.

05 October 2018

On Friday 5th October we travelled to Institut Le Rosey with a bus full of uncontrollably excited 9 and 10-year old boys for the eagerly anticipated SGIS Category Football Tournament.

That excitement quickly turned into 7 goals in our first game with a 7-0 victory over Geneva English School with goals from Paul, Fernando and a hattrick from Carl. With a sudden burst of confidence, we entered the next game against IS Berne but let our heads drop after we allowed them to go 1-0 up. We never really got into this game and it ended 4-0, a loss that we didn’t expect after our first victory. Luckily, though, with sheer drive and determination we managed to hold off any other teams from winning and kept our next two games against La Cote International School and JFK Saanen at a draw with 1-1 and 2-2 finishing scores. A late goal from Jamie saw us push through to the semi finals due to our goal difference that we created in our first game. We felt lucky to have gotten that far.Unfortunately, we were beaten by a stronger Haut Lac side in the semi-final. Thanks to the organisers we were able to play a runners-up game to finish off what was a great day with our coaches Dave Burrows and Ms. McKenna.

This game ended in a dramatic penalty shoot out with Javier in goals. Not even a fantastic save by Javier could seal the win for us though we walked away with our heads held high having learned a lot from this experience. We are already looking forward to our next tournament.

Well done to Haut Lac who won the tournament and thank you to La Cote IS and Institut Le Rosey for organising the tournament.
