U16 Girls and Boys Football Tournament

05 February 2020

The U16 boys and girls gave an excellent display of the football skills in this year group at an indoor football tournament hosted by Brilliantmont School in Lausanne.

In the Girls tournament, the team, captained by Audrey Pelletier, had a tough couple of opening games against Beau Soleil and eventual winners La Côte International School. They really could have won or drawn their first two games but let in a couple of soft goals which resulted in losses.

This meant that they played in the 3rd/4th play off final and gave a creditable performance in the final against the hosts with solid defensive work from Gemma and Tabitha and some excellent attacking play from Peilin, Audrey and Marina. To come home with a 3rd place medal with a team missing two players and with an injury to Kaylin was a good performance.

In the Boys tournament the attacking display on show was extraordinary with captain Alistair Horne in particular having a wonderful night supported by Matias and Mateo with some amazing one touch football and some very special goals. At the back, coach Dave 'Mourinho' Burrows was a little disappointed with the two goals that we let in over 4 matches but Ben, Sticky Miki and Ronnie gave assured performances. Aleks was our super sub and scored some excellent goals

The boys went through the 4 game tournament scoring 28 goals, only conceding 2, in 65 minutes of intense football, sending a strong message to the other schools that we have a very special u16 age group at St George's. Whilst we talk about a talented team, it was clear that we out worked all of the other schools and our speed of movement with the ball was a sight to behold.

The boys were rightly crowned winners of the first MLS football tournament of 2020.
